Salvatore Ferraiolo
Store officials tipped off police about a shoplifter at Target, 600 Executive Blvd. in Southington, and the investigation led to the arrest of Salvatore A. Ferraiolo, 33, of Waterbury.
Loss prevention workers at Target called police on Nov. 8, at approximately 3:37 p.m., reporting a suspect concealing items inside his coat. Ferraiolo was stopped by officers as he was exiting the store. A stack of 4″x1″ circular magnets were found on Ferraiolo’s person. These magnets are commonly used to remove security cases from video games and other merchandise.
Store officials reported video monitoring Ferraiolo and a juvenile (14 year old male) as they walked around the electronics section of the store. Officials observed Ferraiolo using the magnets to remove security cases from video games before returning them to nearby shelves. Ferraiolo took one of the games and began to walk towards the front of the store without the juvenile. As he was walking out, Ferraiolo saw the police officer, took the game from his pocket and put it on a shelf prior to attempting to exit the store.
The juvenile was later located in the store, and a family member was contacted to come pick him up. It does not appear Ferraiolo and the juvenile are related.
Based on the investigation, Ferraiolo was arrested and charged with possession of a shoplifting device, risk of injury, and criminal attempt to commit sixth degree larceny. He was released on a $10,000 bond and given a court date of Nov. 21 at the Bristol Superior Court.
