On Saturday, Nov. 28, Southington Police responded to the area of 305 Copper Ridge at approximately 9:07 a.m. on a report of an untimely death.

At some point on Nov. 27, the victim, Eric Alberti, 50, of Southington left his parent’s home and walked up into the mountainous terrain on the east side of Copper Ridge. When he did not return home, the family became concerned. They located him at the base of a ridge in the area of 305 Copper Ridge.

Medical personnel pronounced Eric deceased at the scene.

There are no indications of foul play and the case is currently under investigation by the SPD detective division.


Woman arrested for theft of ATM card from elderly resident

Eileen Vertucci

Eileen Vertucci, 48, of Meriden was arrested on Nov. 21 at approximately 8:15 p.m. on an active arrest warrant and charged with second degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.

The warrant stems from an investigation that began in June 2012 when a person assisting an elderly Southington resident with her finances discovered unauthorized ATM transactions made on the victim’s ATM card. Prior to the discovery, Vertucci was employed as a home health aide for the victim from April 2012 through June 2012.

The warrant alleges that during that time, Vertucci had access to the ATM card with authorization to make transactions on behalf on the victim only at certain locations within the Town of Southington. Investigators found 53 unauthorized transactions between April 16, 2012 and June 19, 2012, totallin $7,145.

Vertucci was processed and held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bristol Court on Nov. 23.

State Police announce holiday arrests over Thanksgiving weekend

MIDDLETOWN—The Connecticut State Police announced that they supplemented the normal patrol force with additional state troopers throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The operation began at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and concluded on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Troopers patrolled roads and highways across Connecticut, focusing on drunken driving violations and aggressive driving.

The state police announced 1,204 speeding arrests, and increase of almost 100 from the same period in 2014. Police also announced 432 seatbelt violations (314 in 2014) with 3,160 hazardous moving violations including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cell phone usage, texting, and failure to signal (3,538 in 2014), 46 DUI arrests (52 in 2014), 513 accidents investigated with 59 injuries and one fatality. In 2014, the police investigated 934 accidents with 97 injuries and one fatality.

‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign cites over 50 seat belt violations

The Southington Police Department handed out nearly 100 tickets during the annual “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement campaign in Southington.

Police announced that 57 motorists were cited during the campaign for failure to wear seat belts. In addition, police ticketed 22 motorists for cell phone violations, 12 for speeding, and five for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

“The annual ‘Click it or Ticket’ mobilization may be over, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt,” a police official said in a department release. “Law enforcement officers are out all year long. If you or your passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt at any time, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation.”

Robinson Center for Health Equity at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. The campaign raised $5,270, which was presented in a check to Curtis D. Robinson, the co-founder of the Curtis D. Arrest made for car accident at Hair Expo

Police were called to Hair Expo, 410 Main St., in Southington at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 on a report of a vehicle evading an accident after striking the building.

The investigation determined that a 1997 Acura, operated by Tyrone Phoenix, was traveling north on Main Street when he veered off the road and struck the building. After the impact, the vehicle continued north on Main Street and was later located by officers in the parking lot near the Southington library.

The Main Street building sustained heavy damage as a result of the accident. The vehicle was found to be unregistered, uninsured and that Phoenix did not have a valid license.

The Southington Fire Department and the Town of Southington building officials responded to the scene.

Tyrone Phoenix, 23, of Waterbury, was issued a misdemeanor summons and charged with failure to drive right, evading responsibility, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to insure the motor vehicle, and operatin without a license.

He was released with an appearance date in court on Monday, Dec. 21.

The Southington Police Department announced the arrest of Bryan Joyce, 29, of Southington at the Bristol Superior Court on Monday, Dec. 7 at approximately 9:35 a.m. Joyce was appearing in court on a separate drug-related arrest.

He was transported to the Southington police headquarters where Joyce was processed and charged with four counts of selling a controlled substance (marijuana). He was held on four $50,000 bonds and was scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Dec. 7.

No further details are available. The warrants were sealed by the court.

Arrest made for thefts at Economy Spring

The Southington police announced the arrest of Jason Bolduc, 35, of Bristol for thefts at Economy Spring in Southington.

On Monday, Dec. 14, Bolduc turned himself into police after learning that there was an active warrant for his arrest. He was processed and charged with first degree larceny.

From April 2015 through November 2015, Bolduc is accused of taking approximately $170,000 worth of metal from his employer, Economy Spring at 29 DePaolo Dr. The investigation found that over this same period, Bolduc brought metal which matched the description of the stolen metal to area metal scrap dealers and collected $19,498 for the metal.

Bolduc was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in the Bristol Superior Court on Dec. 28, 2015.

The Southington Police Department is currently accepting resumes for an assistant animal control officer. Applications must be received by Monday, Feb. 15, 2016.

Interested applicants must go to www.policeapp.com/Southington and fill out the online application. Testing information can be found at the following locations: www.policeapp.com, www.cpcanet.org (Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association/CPCA).

The assistant animal control officer investigates complaints referred to the Southington Police Department on roaming, injured, lost, found, barking, vicious, biting and dead domestic animals or specified dangerous wild life as needed.

Applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a G.E.D., be at least 21 years of age, be a citizen of the United States, and possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Candidates must have a passing score of at least 70 percent on the CPCA Written Examination for Animal Control Officer in order to submit their application. The next testing date is Jan. 23, 2016.

7th annual police department gift drive

The Southington Police Department will be holding their 7th annual gift drive on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Southington Walmart on Queen Street.

Cheshire man arrested for heroin and DUI

Donald Bisson

Donald Bisson, 56, of Cheshire, turned himself into Southington Police at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11 after learning there was an active warrant for his arrest.

The warrant alleges Bisson was witnessed operating his vehicle in an erratic manner on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Meriden Avenue, and Route 10 during the late afternoon on Oct. 20. Officers made contact with Bisson, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Further investigation showed Bisson was operating the vehicle under the influence and also in possession of heroin at the time of the incident.

He was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence of drugs, and illegal possession of narcotics. He was processed and released on a $1,000 bond with an appearance date of Dec. 28, 2015 for the Bristol Court.


Police raid underage drinking party

Just before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, Southington Police Officers were dispatched to 102 Doe Meadow Ct. on a report of an underage party.

Upon arrival, officers heard music coming from inside the residence and from inside the garage. Police also detected a strong odor of marijuana, and they observed evidence of alcohol consumption. A check of the residence showed one beer keg, numerous cans of beer, drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Based on the findings, police arrested seven people, including two juveniles for possession of alcohol by a minor and one juvenile for possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of the social hosting law.

Christopher Bouyea, 19, of Southington and David Craig Smelly, Jr., 19, of Southington were both charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.

Domenic Stephen Rossi, 18, of Southington was arrested for possession of less than one half ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Aaron Pratt, 24, of Terryville, was arrested for possession of less than one half ounce of marijuana.

Sexual assault at Healing Hands massage

David Kingsbury, 48, of Southington, turned himself in at the Southington Police Department at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 after learning there was an active warrant for his arrest.

The warrant stemmed from a sexual assault incident that occurred in Southington on Sept. 16, 2015.

The warrant alleges that Kingsbury was working as a massage therapist at the Healing Hands and Body Works Therapeutic Massage on Queen Street in Southington when he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim. At the time of the assault, the victim was a patron of the business.

Kingsbury was processed and charged with fourth degree sexual assault, and he was released on a $10,000 bond. He was given an appearance date of Jan. 4, 2016 at the Bristol Court.

The warrant was sealed at the time of the arrest and no further details will be released.

Local man arrested for public indecency on rail-trail

Timothy Delaney

Timothy Delaney, 18, of Southington was arrested by Southington police for an incident on the Southington Linear Trail, just after 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3.

Police responded to a report that a male, identified as Delaney, had exposed himself to two young females, aged 5 and 8, as he rode by them on a bicycle on the Southington rail-trail. Delaney was located and taken into custody without incident. During the investigative phase, officers located a baggie of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Delaney’s person.

He was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of public indecency, second degree breach of peace, possession of marijuana (by a non-student) within 1500 feet of a school, possession of less than one half ounce of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia with less than one half ounce of marijuana.

Delaney will be held on a $50,000 bond pending his court appearance today.

A home invasion drew police attention on Monday, Jan. 4 when a home on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike reported a home invasion. At 6:41 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, police received a call from Daniel Morin, 43, of 735 Meriden Waterbury Tpk. which sparked the investigation.

Police reported that Morin was in his home, along with a female, when three individual dressed all in black with gloves and masks forced their way into the home. All three individuals had handguns. Morin attempted to confront the intruders, and an altercation ensued.

During the altercation, one of the intruders fired two shots. Morin was struck in the upper arm.

The intruders moved about the house before fleeing on foot. Officers responded with a K-9 unit and checked the area. The suspects were not located.

Police reported that Morin suffered non-life threatening injuries. At this time it is unknown what, if anything, was taken from the home.

Detectives remain on the scene, and the investigation is active.
