Police arrested a Georgia man and woman when a dine-and-dash investigation turned into an investigation about a stolen vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to Denny’s restaurant on Queen Street after employees became suspicious when Robert Brock, 34, of Barnesville, Ga., and Christina Brock, 27, of Milner, Ga., were unable to pay for the meals that they had ordered and eaten. The employees suspected that the pair was going to possibly leave the restaurant without paying.

Officers found Christina walking away from the restaurant, and she said she was going to her vehicle to get money/credit card to pay for the food. Officers located Robert (still inside the restaurant), and he gave the same story.

Officers then escorted the pair to their vehicle, which was parked on Interstate Drive, and ran the license plate while Robert was looking for money. The vehicle turned out to be reported stolen out of the Monroe County Sherriff’s Office in Georgia. The stolen status was confirmed with the Sherriff’s Office, and the two were taken into custody without incident.

The stolen vehicle, a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was valued at $5,000.

Police checked the vehicle, and found no money or credit card to pay the Denny’s bill. The value of the meal was $28.96.

Both were charged with one count of third degree larceny with a $50,000 bond and one count of sixth degree larceny with a $500 bond. Neither arrestee was able to post bond. They were held for a June 29, 2016 court appearance.
