Plainville police discovered an open warrant for a Plainville resident and turned him over to Southington police. As a result, Edwin Martinez Jr., 37, of Plainville was arrested for stealing from his employer at Motel 6 on Queen Street.
Plainville police came into contact with Martinez on Aug. 30 and learned about the Southington warrant. They transported him to the Southington Police Department where Martinez was charged with fifth degree computer crimes and sixth degree larceny.
The warrant stems from an investigation that began on July 30, 2016 at the Southington Motel 6. The warrant alleges that Martinez, a member of the hotel’s front desk staff, manipulated room rental transactions in the computer system to appear that a room was rented. He also noted that the guest was not satisfied with the room and was refunded money. The warrant further alleges that the guest was never dissatisfied with the room, that there was never money returned to the guest and that Martinez kept the money.
There were five transactions between July 9, 2016 and July 21, 2016 where Martinez allegedly falsified the records and kept the cash. The total amount is $331.26.
Martinez was released on a $2,500 bond and was given an appearance date of Sept. 12, 2016 for the Bristol Court.
