Two women are under arrest after police said they used a ruse during an open house to steal jewelry from residences.
According to the arrest warrants, Sharon Nigosanti, 44, of Deep River and Angela Ruitto, 27, of Old Saybrook, attended an open house in Southington on January 13, under the ruse that they were a mother and daughter interested in buying the house. They then asked for a private showing with a realtor, allowing them further access to the home.
When the homeowner returned, they found that $6,620 worth of jewelry was stolen. An investigation found that Ruitto and Nigosanti pawned the jewelry at various locations across the state.
According to police, the two female suspects also committed similar thefts in Glastonbury, Guilford and Fairfield.
Both women were charged with third degree burglary, third degree conspiracy to commit third degree burglary, third degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third degree larceny.
Nigosanti was held on a $75,000 bond with an April 9 court date. Ruitto was held on a $50,000 bond with a March 28 court date.
